More than 300 attendees participated in Montesano’s 2nd Annual Columbus Day Fundraiser on October 8. The event was organized to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America and to collect food for Three Square, Southern Nevada’s only food bank whose mission is to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger free community.
“This was a successful event,” said Yolanda Arteaga, the owner of Y.A. Events and one of the organizers of the fundraiser. “The turnout was good and the kids really enjoyed it. For Montesano’s, it’s all about the kids and family.”
Four families that are affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network were among the participants in the fundraiser as were members of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization that is committed to charitable and public relief works.
Admission was free for the Columbus Day fundraiser which offered a wide variety of family oriented activities including face painting, a bounce house, game booths and giveaways. Attendees also witnessed the unveiling of over 400 pounds of lasagna as part of the Montesano’s Ultimate Lasagna Challenge as well as two 3 foot black and white cookies that were baked in the restaurant. Some of the participants got the opportunity to feast on more than their fair share of pasta during the 2nd Annual Lasagna Speed Eating Contest.
Twenty dollar donations were requested at the fundraiser in exchange for an Italian dinner and an event t-shirt and attendees were asked to bring canned goods to donate to Three Square. Montesano’s and G.Dallas Horton, a Las Vegas-based injury attorney also contributed large cash donations to the Children’s Miracle Network.
Arteaga said that she is very impressed with Three Square and the Children’s Miracle Network.
“These are very reputable non-profit organizations that are doing good things in the community and I look forward to working with them on future projects,” she said.
According to Arteaga, Montesano’s Columbus Day Fundraiser has outgrown the confines of its current venue and will be relocating next year.
“It will definitely be taken offsite somewhere for next year’s event, but we haven’t determined where it will be,” she said.” We want this fundraiser to continue to grow.”
